Outdoor antiques fairs fill the calendar during the summer months. Here are a few of our favorites for July and August.
Brimfield, MA, July 10-15
Still the biggest after all these years, the Brimfield show encompasses more than 20 independent venues or “fields” in the small town of Brimfield, in central Massachusetts. Different fields—among them J&J (www.jandj-brimfield.com), New England Motel (www.antiques-brimfield.com), May’s (www.maysbrimfield.com), and Heart-o-the-Mart (www.brimfield-hotm.com)—have staggered openings, but there’s plenty to see no matter when you attend during the five-day event. Hundreds of dealers offer wares in myriad antiques categories and at a vast range of quality—everything from collectibles to fine antiques can be found at Brimfield. For information, check www.brimfield.com or the individual Web sites of various fields.
Antiques at Elm Bank Estate, Wellesley, MA, July 28-29
Located on the grounds of the Elm Bank Estate, an historic property that is home to the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, this show features more than 150 dealers under tents as well as indoors. An early preview breakfast Saturday morning begins at 8 a.m. and the $25 ticket benefits Mass Hort. Regular show admission (hours: Saturday, 9-5, Sunday, 10-4) costs $10. Allegan (MI) Antiques Market, July 29 & Aug 26
This western Michigan town hosts hundreds of antiques dealers on the last Sunday of every month from April to November, with nearly 200 dealers setting up their wares under canopies on the Allegan County Fairgrounds. Dealers bring everything from architectural antiques to linens, silver and jewelry. Hours are 7:30-4, admission $4. For information: www.alleganantiques.com.
Madison-Bouckville (NY) Antiques Show, Aug. 18-19
Spread across 90 acres of farmland in upstate New York, the Madison-Bouckville Antiques Show, in its 36th year, boasts 1,000 “prescreened dealers from the United States and Canada.” The show includes an “Appraisal Alley,” where you can get two items professionally evaluated for a small donation. The show’s regular hours are Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. for $6 admission, but you can buy Early Bird entry for $40, enabling you to enter on Friday at 10 a.m. (tickets go on sale at 7 a.m. Friday).
