Originally thought to be knockoffs of the glamorous jewels dripping off 1930s screen stars, costume jewelry has become a must-have collectible in its own right, adding a touch of sparkle to an outfit begging for bling. The golden age of costume jewelry—from 1920 through 1950—saw such designers as Miriam Haskell, Trifari, Chanel, and Christian Dior playing with colorful rhinestones, metal, beads, wood, and shell to make whimsical and elegant accessories.
