Our Emergency Makeover Team™ uses ready-made linens to dress up tired dining-room furniture—just in time for holiday gatherings.
GETTING STARTED
Look for table linens that speak your style (here we combined red and natural-hue ticking stripes, redwork, linen, and burlap), then fit your furniture with the following simple slipcovers.
PROJECT PROFILE
Cost: $200
Time: 8 hours
Supplies To Buy: hemstitched and cross-stitched napkins (2 or 3 per chair), two drapery panels, two hemstitched runners, 24 yards narrow velvet ribbon, 10 yards pleated velvet ribbon, upholstery needle, decorative buttons, thread, batting
Toolbox: sewing machine, hot-glue gun, scissors, pins, iron
SOLID CHAIR SKIRT
Sew together two hemstitched napkins on one edge, with right sides together, then turn right sides out. Weave ribbon on the three open sides using the technique above, leaving long ties on each side. Tie cover to the chair back and tie bows on the corners at the chair front.
STRIPED CHAIR SKIRT
Treat curvy seats with form-fitting skirts. Here we folded and cut a napkin to fit the seat, then sewed pleated ribbon to the bottom hem and narrow ribbon to the back for ties.
