When your kids outgrow their clothes, recycle their favorite old T-shirts into memorable works of art. Look for colorful vacation, sports, or school T-shirts. Buy canvas stretcher bars from the crafts store to make a frame (take the shirts to the store to get the right size bars). Stretch the shirt over the frame, staple it into place with a staple gun (as shown), and trim off the excess fabric. Every year, add one or two new works of "art."

Green Tip
Did you know that only 10% of donated clothes end up for resale in thrift shops? The rest of them are made into cleaning cloths by textile recyclers. Recyclers pay charities like Goodwill a fee for the old clothes, so feel good about giving up those tattered jeans! For a Goodwill store near you, visit www.goodwill.org.
